McLaren Automotive has dropped a further hint that hybrid engineering will feature on its future supercars.

The firm is advertising for an electrical engineer to work on the “concept, design and improvement of the electrical package and wiring system for the hybrid electric vehicle”.

A McLaren spokesman wouldn’t confirm whether or not or not the advert meant it was preparing on adding hybrid know-how to its road cars.

The spokesman said: “Hybrid know-how is some thing that we are wanting at and assessing. It really is some thing we are interested in.”

The company advertised to get a senior engineer in powertrain hybrid technological innovation in July of last yr.

When queried at that stage, a McLaren spokesman said: “It [hybrid technology[]|] is one thing we want as a forward-thinking, technology-driven corporation. We have been contemplating it for long term projects.

“All the advert implies is that we are trying to find a senior engineer in powertrain hybrid technology. Study into it what you'll.”

It appears that the Woking-based agency desires to develop its personal total hybrid powertrains, which would go beyond more conventional and mainstream hybrid technologies such as stop-start, to compete with Ferrari and Lamborghini. Both Italian companies have confirmed hybrid powertrains are in growth.

McLaren has recently borrowed £40m to build a new factory for its MP4-12C supercar and there have been reports of aggressive expansion within the following few years.

McLaren Automotive boss Ron Dennis has previously mentioned the company is preparing an output of close to 4000 cars a yr by 2015.

The MP4-12C will go on sale in the early part of 2011, with a price tag of close to £150k.
